Importance of nutrition for healthy muscles

Healthy muscles contribute a great deal in maintaining a healthy body, but healthy muscles are not something that comes naturally since there is a lot that goes into maintaining the health of your muscles flawlessly.

Various types of foods contribute differently towards muscle health!  Protein, however, is one nutrient that helps brilliantly in repairing and strengthening the muscles and helps to keep your body’s fluid levels balanced.

Here are few tips to remember and have up your sleeves to help you develop and maintain strong muscles!

Good quality Proteins:

Protein should form an essential part of your diet if you are someone who wants to develop and have healthy muscles! Amino acids present in proteins help in repairing and strengthening your muscles. Always remember, foods such as fish, lean meat, beans and low-fat dairy products are some of the good sources of protein which will be very beneficial for your muscle health.

To make Indians realize the importance of proteins the Indian Dietetic Association (IDA), Delhi Chapter has announced that ‘The Protein Week’ which is celebrated from the 24th to the 30th of July and it is being supported by the Protein Foods and Nutrition Development Association of India (PFNDAI). Why not take it as an incentive to include more protein in your diet too?

Water is your best friend:

Water is obviously something that helps your body stay healthy and hydrated! Similarly, muscles need water to stay hydrated and to keep functioning properly! Of course, the amount of water a person needs differs from person to person, so we can never define specific amount for everyone. It is therefore important to include good amount of water and fluids like milk, buttermilk, coconut water and so on in your diet.

Healthy Carbohydrates:

Carbohydrates are an important part of our diets and should be consumed in proper quantities. It is important to consume more of complex carbohydrates and avoid the simple sugars. Complex carbohydrates include foods like quinoa, brown rice, whole grains and cereals, and foods like fruits and non-starchy vegetables. Simple sugars found in soft drinks, bakery foods, white bread and so on need to be limited in the diet.

These healthy carbohydrates work as a fuel for your body and make sure that it stays healthy and strong.

From eliminating muscle pain to maintaining muscle health, a lot of this can easily be done simply by consuming a healthy diet that comprises of proteins, healthy carbs and plenty of water! All you need to do is remember these tips and suggestions and try to incorporate them into your daily lifestyle and you will do just fine!
