Worst Foods to Start Your Day With

By Nutritionist Neha | February 15, 2018

We all know and have also heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Does that in itself, not oblige us to put more thought into what we have on our plates in the morning?

Research shows that starting off your day with a healthy breakfast helps a great deal in aiding weight-loss and maintaining a healthy lifestyle as well. Trust us when we tell you that if you make having a healthy breakfast in the morning a habit, then you will be able to avoid quite many illnesses.

A healthy breakfast also helps brilliantly in preventing mid-afternoon binge eating sprees, thus helping you to reduce more weight! So to have a look at what are some of the unhealthiest foods to have for breakfast, so that you can steer clear of them, check out our list of the worst foods to start your day with.

  • Boxed Cereals:

Ok, we understand how you might be tempted to keep those boxed cereals in stock, since they make such a convenient breakfast option, especially if you are in a hurry. But did you know that what the cereals are full of is a ton of sugar? You might get an initial energy boost when you eat these cereals, but you WILL experience major energy crashes just a few hours later.

If you are looking at buying cereals, instead of the cornflakes or chocos available in the market, try to go for cereals that contain more fiber and protein instead of only sugar. Any cereal that has whole grains like barley, quinoa etc is so much better than your popular boxed cereals out there. Remember to always choose cereals that have lesser amount of trans fats, sugar and sodium in it.

  • Ready-Made Breakfast Smoothies:

Have you ever purchased those so called healthy, ready to drink breakfast smoothies when in a hurry and wondered why they were so sweet or why they tasted so rich? Well, we will let you in on a secret! The majority of breakfast smoothies are literally just full of sugar or even worse, ice cream! Surprise, surprise! You are literally drinking a dessert at this point in time!

It is always advisable to make your own smoothie at home and take it along with you in one of those flasks. Atleast that way you will know what all is going into your smoothie. And in case you are allergic to certain food substances like dairy or soy, then you will be able to create your own healthy smoothie keeping those issues in mind too. We literally do not see a downside to making your own smoothie, do you?

  • Breakfast Sandwiches from Takeaways:

Ofcourse sandwiches seem like one of the “healthier” and more balanced options when you come to think of it. But have you ever thought of taking a sandwich apart and truly checking out what it has inside? You haven’t, have you? Why don’t we do it for you then?

Most of the sandwiches that you have from those sandwich shops contain tons of processed food like meat and cheese that may or may not be past their expiry date too. Apart from all this, there is a definite possibility that your sandwich has been smothered in butter too! Still sound healthy to you? We thought not! So why not make your own sandwich which you can easily takeaway? So much healthier is it not?

So we hope that from here on out, you are able to make better and healthier decisions when it comes to taking your breakfast and having it too! Happy and healthy eating people!
